I am excited to announce that this year I will be performing in Broadway Bares XXII!! What is Broadway Bares you ask?

Well, it’s a charity burlesque show that was created by Jerry Mitchell twenty two years ago as a response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic that is very present in our world today. It has become so popular that it is now the most anticipated Broadway charity performance of the year! Every last dime goes to Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, which not only helps people living with HIV/AIDS but also has helped with the Japan and Haitian relief funds, the Phyllis Newman Health Initiative (Helping women living with breast and ovarian cancer), the Actor’s Fund and much more! Did I mention that everyone involved is a volunteer from stage hands to the two hundred fifteen hand selected performers (including yours truly!)

So what’s that have to do with food I bet you are asking…well, LOTS! You see in the normal world I am a skinny gay living his life in the big city. In the world of NYC theatre next to all these dancer boys, I’m a cow. Plus all these boys are hitting the gym extra hard ’cause, did i forget to mention, there is little to none as far as costumery goes? It’s a burlesque show! SO everyone starts off with a little clothes and ends up in less!

In an effort to tone up and get hot I’ve started what everyone in Bares calls The Broadway Bares Diet (BBD)! It comes in different forms for many and over the next three weeks I am going to share with you my journey to getting fit and Bares ready!

Although I’m tempted just to eat whole wheat tic tacs and take laxatives for the next three weeks, my BBD essentially consists of living a Weight Watcher’s lifestyle (only consuming 32 points a day according to their system) and having the lovely Unicorns at Mark Fisher Fitness whip my butt into gear! Over the next few weeks I’ll update you on my weight loss, Mark Fisher-isms, my healthy snacks of the week, healthy meals and what I call my Public Enemy No.1 (All the delicious foods I want to be eating but can’t)

Follow along, diet with me (it couldn’t hurt, you don’t have to be on Weight Watcher’s to eat well plus swimsuit season is here!) and shoot me some support and love!

So, without further adieu let’s start this week off with my SNACK OF THE WEEK!!

Gluteus Minimus Savory Discs of Love! (aka Brown Rice Cakes with Hummus & Olive Tapenade)

1 Brown Rice Cake (Trader Joe’s brand is rockin’!) (2 Points Plus)

1 TBS Hummus (you can use your favorite brand or make mine. See Below!) (0 Points Plus!)

1 Tbs Green Olive Tapenade (Once again Trader Joe’s makes a great one if you are on the go or make mine if you have some time!) (0 Points Plus)

Take the rice cake spread with hummus and tapenade and go to town! It’s simple easy and delicious if you are in a rush or just need a savory quick fix!!

Here’s to eating healthy, getting fit and all for charity! Okay..okay..and maybe for a little vanity!
